Objectives of the Programme

The Junior Women National Development Programme is designed to:

  • Encourage the development of young female players in Ireland;
  • Encourage the growth of female participation in Ireland;
  • Enhance players abilities & understandings and giving them more playing opportunities;
  • Give female inline hockey a major platform in Ireland;
  • Give targets and motivation to young people to remain in sport;
  • Improve the future of inline hockey in Ireland;
  • Create good relationships amongst players from rival clubs;
  • Attend tournaments in Europe; and,
  • Ultimately represent Ireland in the Junior Women category at European and/or World Championships.

Targets

  1. The first year will be focused on building the groundwork for a sustainable programme. This will involve running open training sessions at various venues across Ireland.
  2. Identify an age appropriate tournament to attend in the UK or Europe towards the end of year 1. Alternative is to host a tournament in Ireland.
  3. Target attending European or World Championships from 2024.
  4. Formalise a domestic competition/tournament for junior women players.

Age Requirements + Eligibility

Initially this will be for female players aged 10-16 (DOB 2006 - 2012) with no restriction on nationality.

When attending European or World Championships an Irish passport will be required.

Costs

As inline hockey or roller sports are not yet recognised by Sport Ireland we currently receive no financial assistance from the government. This means that unfortunately selected players will be responsible for all travel & training costs.

The association is committed to financially assisting as much as possible, but we need to be economically sustainable. However, opportunities will be given for players and the team to organise fundraising events and source sponsorships to ensure this cost is kept to a minimum.
