We are pleased
to announce the appointment of James Glover as the Men's National Team Head
Coach. James brings with him a wealth of success both as a player and coach.
James began
playing ice hockey in his teens before taking up inline hockey 14 years ago. As
a player James was part of several championship teams with the Bangor Chiefs
and more notably Northern Cyclones.
James began
coaching early on in his inline hockey career, beginning as head coach of the
Northern Cyclones junior teams. The Cyclones had multiple successes over the
years and helped to develop a number of players who have since gone on to play
ice hockey in North America. These successes led to James being named as a head
coach in 2011 to the GB Junior Inline Hockey teams for their AAU trip to
America. This gave James the opportunity to further his knowledge of the game.
After a couple
years out of coaching, James has returned this year to coach the Northern
Cyclones senior team and the Northern Angels ladies team. James also has the
rare occurrence in Ireland of working in hockey, working as operations manager
for the Belfast Giants for the last 7 years. Part of his role with the Giants
included being heavily involved in the hugely successful organising of the NCAA
Friendship Four and IIHF World Championship at the SSE Arena.
James Glover,
Head Coach
“I’m extremely
excited to get started with the Men’s Senior National Team. We have some
excellent inline hockey players in Ireland and I can’t wait to put together a
team that is reflective of the talent in our league.”
“Hopefully the
players are as enthusiastic as I am. With the right buy in I believe we will
have a team that can definitely compete at an international level.”
Michael Creane,
Chairperson
"I'm very
pleased to be able to get someone of James's experience of coaching and
organising at different events involved with our Men's National Team. James met
the key qualities we were looking for in a coach; hardworking, organised and
strong leadership, with his contacts through the Giants bringing an added
benefit."
"I have
spoke at length with James about what he is looking for in players, and we both
agree that a group of players that are willing to work hard for each other will
increase our chances of success."
